The SC/APC Fixed Optical Attenuator (10 dB) is a passive device used in Passive Optical Networks (PON) to reduce the strength of optical signals by a fixed 10 decibels. It is especially useful in short-distance fiber runs, where signal power from the OLT (Optical Line Terminal) may be too strong for ONTs/ONUs, leading to receiver overload.
This attenuator uses an SC/APC (Angled Physical Contact) connector, recognizable by its green housing and 8° angled polish, which minimizes back reflections — crucial in high-speed, bidirectional PON environments.
